The Gathering
How the pressure builds — chronic pain, the roles we over-give to, the warnings we talk ourselves out of hearing.
A Memoir of Storm, Stillness & Coming Home
Some of us don't change until the wind takes the roof off. This is the story of the storm that broke Nicole open — and the practice that put her back together, stronger and softer at once.
The storm isn't the punishment. It's the invitation. Everything I needed to rebuild was already waiting in the eye.
Living with chronic pain, Nicole was told what her life would look like — smaller, slower, medicated. Then a season of upheaval hit like weather she couldn't out-plan, and the life she'd been holding together came apart.
On the mat at the Southwest Institute of Healing Arts in Tempe, she found something the prescriptions never gave her: a way into stillness deep enough that the pain quieted and she could finally breathe. That single discovery became a calling.
In 2017 she founded Nicole Anne Yoga & Holistic Wellness™ on a simple promise — bring the zen to you. Today it's an award-winning practice of 100+ practitioners serving hospitals, schools, companies, and homes across Arizona. It Took a Typhoon is the story underneath all of it.
“Self-care is how you take your power back.”
Part memoir, part field guide for anyone weathering their own typhoon — the chapters move the way real healing does, from the first gust to the calm on the other side.
How the pressure builds — chronic pain, the roles we over-give to, the warnings we talk ourselves out of hearing.
When everything you built gets rearranged at once — and why the wreckage is also a clearing.
Breath, sound, and stillness — the practices that gave Nicole a quiet center she could return to at will.
Rebuilding on purpose — and turning a survival story into a life (and a practice) that helps others find their zen.
Internationally revered yoga master and founder of the Amrit Yoga tradition.
Nicole writes the way she teaches — honestly, and from the scar rather than the wound. This is a book about what becomes possible when we stop bracing against the storm and learn, instead, to find the stillness at its center.Yogi Amrit DesaiFrom the Foreword · representative excerpt
